Building Your First Website

Hopefully you have selected a web hosting company that gives you a number of good website building tools. These are important for your online business and building an attractive and well designed site. You want your site to be one that you would enjoy visiting yourself. I will not go into the techniques of building your site, we will look at the items you will need to place on your site.

First and really important is your page title. This is what you see, usually underlined and in blue, when your browser returns a search results. Your page tile for your online business should have your major keyword in the tile just as it needs to be in your domain name. Your page tile should also be in you h1 header( at the top of your site pages). Your page title should also be in the html coding. Ex: <title> your page title </title>.

Next is the meta description. This is the description of what online business is about. It is displayed under the page title when your browser returns a search results. It is place in the h1 or h2 header. The meta description is also found in the html coding. Ex: <meta name="description" content=" describe your site< /EM> ">. Meta keywords are placed in the html coding. Ex: <meta name="keywords" content=" your keywords here< /EM> ">.< /EM> Remember the meta tags are important for optimization.

Next will be your headline. This is the same as in a newspaper, it comes at the top of your site page. After your headline come your body text(content). Note: There are more meta tags that can be place in the html coding but I am not sure if they help your optimization.

One other thing to do with optimization. When Google reads your site it begins at the site title, next is the headers, then down the left side, then it reads the content and then the right side. It is looking for your keywords and keywords in your content. You will find more about this in search engine optimization. Text links or links, (refereed to as hyperlink) are active links that, when clicked, will take you to other pages of your site or to other website. Google likes internal and external links. It likes more internal than external. Like a said before, Google is important to your sites profitability.

Addition items you need to have on your site.

Contact Us: A email address, special telephone number or street address. Most site have only a free email address.

About Us: A page within your site that tell the view something about you and your site.

Privacy Policy: A page insuring the viewer of how you will protect his privacy if he should give private information on your site

Disclaimer: A page to protect you from legal action for miss information or other legal issues

Site Map: This page is also important to Google. It should contain a click able link to all the pages on your site and a copy of and links to other sites.

Home Page: It is important to put a click able link to your home page on each page of your site so that a visitor can return directly to your main page from any page on your site.

This is just a little taste of the things you must learn if you are going to have a good website and a profitable online business.

If you are really serious about having your very own successful online business you will either have pay someone to build your website or build it yourself. Most successful online business have multiple websites. If you are planning to do affiliate marketing you will need multiple sites and multiple landing pages. It is important that you have the best tools available for these task. Several of the most popular software packages are Front Page and DreamWeaver. I had use both of these until I tried X Site Pro.

It is less expensive than the others, offers more features, and most important, for the new marketer, it is easier to use and the learning curve is mush shorter. I do highly recommend you take a look at this software.
