Affiliate Marketing
Programs
Choosing the right
affiliate marketing program and most
important the right product can make the difference between
success and failure. To many new affiliate
marketers fail because they choose the wrong product or the
wrong market.
The first consideration should be what
market to promote. Trying to promote a product in a market
where there is no demand is a pure waste of your time, effort
and your money. Do some market research on your own.
(How to do market research?) Some
of these affiliate programs will inflate the market
value of their product in order to get you to promote their
product. Once you have found a market to promote in then you
can look for a product to promote. Once you have found a
product or products to promote, then and only then, will you
look for an affiliate program.
What To Look For In An Affiliate
Marketing Program
When selecting an affiliate program there are several important
features of the program you should first consider.
• ROI- (Return on investment)For every
dollar you spend to promote the product, how much will
you get in return. Ideally you should set your goal for a 2 to
1 ROI. For every dollar spent you get two dollars in return.
Set your own goals.
• Promotional Support- What type of
promotional support does the program provide to help you
promote the product? Pre-written emails, articles, keywords,
banners, free bonus products, newsletters.
• Product Sales Page- One of, if not
the most important, is the product sales page. First
consideration, does it sell you? If you were interested in the
product and click upon the sales page, would the pages spur you
to buy the product? Good attention getting, eye catching sales
pages for the product is must.
• Conversion Rate- Conversion rate is
the number of times someone buys when they click on the ad in
relation to the number of times the product ad is clicked upon.
An average conversion rate of 2 sales for every 100 clicks is a
starting point. A good conversion rate for a product can depend
on the amount it is costing the affiliate per
click.
• Cookie Retention- Each time someone
click on an affiliate ad a cookie is placed on the customer’s
computer. If the customer does not remove the cookie it will
remain on his computer for a defined amount of time. If the
customer to your ad does not buy your affiliate product on the
initial visit but return at a later date and the cookie has
remained on his computer you will receive credit for the sale.
The amount of time the cookie remains valid is determined by
the affiliate program.
• Commission- What is the percentage
of commission the program is paying per sale. Does it pay only
for sales or does it pay for leads. Commissions can range for
10 to 70 percent depending on the affiliate program.
• Additional Items To Consider
a) Tracking
b) One or two tier program
c) Back end sales
d) Payment method
e) Payment schedule
Do not just jump into any affiliate
program. Do your research and then select your program.
Your affiliate marketing success can well depend upon
it.
